For more than two decades, Acumen has been working to solve the problems of poverty and build a world based on dignity.
As we reflected on our accomplishments of the past 20 years and imagined what it will take to build a future that includes all of us, we realized that our community needed a moment to come together. Dignity is inherent in every person. It’s fundamental to humanity–to be seen, to be heard, to contribute, to be counted.
If we’re going to succeed in creating a world of dignity, this community needs to aggregate our resources and align our collective actions.
To this end we created a series of daytime workshops, an exhibition and a celebration dinner for Acumen investees, Fellows, Partners, and collaborators to imagine with us what a world based on dignity might look like.
Dear friends,
Community is a form of beauty that makes struggle bearable. And tonight, more than two decades after Acumen pioneered investing as a means of solving tough problems of poverty, we’re thrilled to celebrate our community and all you have helped us accomplish – and recommit to the vision we have of a world built on dignity.
Much has changed since we founded Acumen. The world feels more complex and challenging—and yet so do I strongly hold to hard-edged hope. Key to that hope? The many people in our community and beyond who are daring to reimagine more inclusive, just and sustainable models for change. And more important, they are succeeding.
We know that change can happen—because we’ve seen it. Step by step, entrepreneur by entrepreneur, community by community, we’ve been witness and partner to impacting millions and sometimes shifting systems altogether. Now, we are at a turning point, and are poised to use our insights and knowledge to help accelerate the growing movement of entrepreneurs using business grounded in moral imagination to solve some of our toughest problems.
It’s because of you that we can do this. Your steadfast belief in our vision, and the ways you’ve challenged us and taught us and cheered us on, have catapulted us into this next chapter of Acumen’s journey. And it’s you that we celebrate tonight—our vibrant, visionary supporters. Thank you…your support has never counted more.
Tonight, you’ll see our work come to life. You’ll see the ways we are being bolder in our ambitions, and unflinching in our commitment. And every step of the way, you – our community of changemakers – are here, helping make possible the impossible.
In gratitude, and with deep resolve,

Curiosity and humour are underlying themes throughout Oliver’s practice as an artist and storyteller. While investigating the ways the human mind understands its world, his work also functions as comic relief in the face of futility.
Jeffers has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a New York Times Best Illustrated Children’s Books Award, Bologna Rigazzi Award, An Irish Book Award, and a United Kingdom Literary Association Award.
